As per the latest notification by UPSC, there are no changes in Civil Services Prelims Paper 1, whereas Prelims Paper 2 has undergone major changes. All though these changes can be seen in the updated civil services exam study material, but still I would like to brief you about the same.
The minimum qualifying marks in General Studies Paper 2 is now 33 percent. So now the merit of Preliminary Exam will be made on the basis of marks in General Studies Paper 1, provide the candidates have minimum qualifying marks in Paper 2. The syllabus of Paper 1 remains the same, while in Paper 2, English comprehension skill portion will be excluded. In addition to these changes, there is a change in the number of attempts too. Any candidate who has finished the number of attempts accepted by UPSC but has given UPSC CSE in 2011 will get one more chance in UPSC CSE 2015.
This has led to tighter competition because getting 33 percent in Paper 1 is not tough but qualifying Paper 2 simultaneously is difficult. Secondly, subjects like History, Political Science, Economics, etc covered in Paper 1 requires a lot of time for preparation and those who start early are at advantage. So the 33 percent criteria in General Studies Paper 1 have put a lot of pressure on candidates.
So for better preparation of Prelims Paper 1 use good books and study material which are now easily available at Prozo. It is an online market place where you can buy Civil Services books at very cheap prices.
